TRAILAR, the leading innovator in solar technology for commercial vehicles, is proud to confirm its alliance with Flix for 2024 and onwards.
In a recent trial spanning various routes over the past 12 months, the TRAILAR Solar Solution has proven to reduce vehicle fuel consumption and associated emissions by upwards of 4%. The collaboration for the trial involved integrating TRAILAR's cutting edge solar technology onto three Flix vehicles in 2022, building on previous work completed…
Throughout the trial period, each Flix was equipped with TRAILAR’s System, designed specifically for transport. The fuel economy of these trial vehicles was then compared to a number of reference vehicles without the solution, directly comparing the impact of the TRAILAR solution.
TRAILAR’s bespoke system reduces the output of a vehicle's alternator during the drive cycle, decreasing the resistance and drag on the engine, saving fuel and reducing emissions. This data is monitored through the TRAILAR Insights Platform where Utilisation, Solar Production and Battery Management amongst other KPI’s are recorded. This data can then be analysed to provide real life vehicle performance and help to understand how to optimise routes and gain the most from the solar solution.
Key Takeaways:
- Sustainability: By harnessing solar energy, Flix has taken a significant step towards reducing its carbon footprint, saving 15 Tonnes of CO2 throughout the trial period and promoting sustainable transportation practices.
- Fuel Economy: With the implementation of TRAILAR’s Solar Solution, 6000L of fuel was saved by increasing the buses electrical efficiency.
- Reliability: Receiving a daily charge through solar, vehicle components operate with less electrical stress, prolonging their life and reducing the number of vehicle breakdowns.
Buoyed by the success of this trial, TRAILAR and Flix looking to explore further opportunities to integrate sustainable technologies into Flix's extensive fleet. The positive results underline the potential for widespread adoption of TRAILAR's solutions across the transportation industry.
